There is a women’s social and volunteer organization that is very active where I live. I’m always reading about them in the paper and hearing about some great community service project they have recently completed. In fact, not a week goes by where I don’t hear or read something wonderful that these great ladies have done to help women, children animals, or the general community.

I have always admired these motivated women who are always on the go, but I had never actually attended one of their fundraiser until last week. That was when I decided to catch a glimpse of these marvelous ladies for myself and get a clear picture of exactly who was behind all of these good deeds.

When I arrived at the fundraiser, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the women involved in this great volunteer organization were just regular women who wanted to make a difference in the world. I think I had kind of expected to see a bunch of rich society women looking down on the folks they were claiming to help, but this wasn’t the case at all. These were soccer moms, stay-at-home moms and professionals who simply cared about the community.

They weren’t dressed fancy or anything like that, but there was one thing that really caught my eye. All of the women were wearing the most beautiful matching cloisonné custom lapel pins that they had obviously designed and ordered specifically for their group. I don’t know what it was about those custom lapel pins, but I loved how they symbolized being a part of something bigger than yourself and, all of the sudden, I couldn’t wait to join.
